Luke McCowan looked the part yet again in yesterday’s 3-0 win over Dundee United. The former Dundee man hasn’t been a regular starter of sorts, but he’s performed well when called upon and looks every inch a Celtic player.

Six goals and four assists so far for McCowan

The biggest compliment you could give Luke is that he looks like he’s played in the Celtic midfield for years. His record of six goals and four assists in 27 games, with most of those appearances coming from the bench makes for impressive reading.

Luke has recently turned 27 and has worked his way to the top from the lower reaches of Scottish football. He’s a player with great experience and truly appreciates where he is now. He’s done the hard graft and has earned his reward by winning a dream move to the country’s most successful club, his boyhood hero’s Celtic and he’s enjoying every single minute.

He’s learning every single day under an elite coach in Brendan Rodgers

He’s learning every single day under an elite coach in Brendan Rodgers. He’s training and playing alongside seasoned international players, and competing at the highest level of European football. He’s a talented player entering his peak years, and it’s surely only a matter of time until he gets called up to the Scotland squad.

Steve Clarke isn’t exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to having talented players to rely upon. If the likes of Kenny McLean, and Connor Barron can get called into the squad, then why can’t Luke? It’s a complete mystery to Celtic and also Dundee supporters who adored Luke while he was at Dens Park.

Knocking on the Scotland door

Not so sure that the Dundee United support feel the same way judging by their reaction to the former Dundee captain yesterday afternoon!

Anyway, Luke is more than worthy of a Scotland call up. If he doesn’t receive an invitation to join up with next month’s squad then he has every right to feel aggrieved. He’s certainly knocking on the Scotland door.
