The Hatters are currently preparing for the summer transfer window, as they potentially brace themselves to lose a couple of players following their relegation to the Premier League.

However, their need to sell isn't as high as some other relegated teams of the past and present, with the club deciding against spending big to give themselves the very best chance of remaining at the top level.

Finishing above Burnley and Sheffield United, the other two relegated sides, they may be confident about their chances of securing a return to the top flight at the first time of asking.

However, they may need to bring in a few fresh faces to boost their chances of finishing in the promotion mix after suffering relegation at the end of last term.

Luton Town targeting Emile Smith Rowe

Competition for places at the Emirates Stadium is high, with Mikel Arteta raising standards at the club in recent years and making the Gunners tough title challengers.

Having previously played for England, it looked as though Smith Rowe wasn't going to go back out on loan, and looked set to become a major asset for the first team.

However, his game time under Arteta was limited last term, making just 13 league appearances with many of these displays coming from the bench.

His appearances in other competitions were also limited - and that has seemingly persuaded the Hatters to consider an audacious loan swoop for the attacking midfielder.

The 23-year-old's contract expires in 2026 and with this in mind, the Gunners could loan him out without risking the possibility of losing him on a free transfer next year.

Luton are keen to recruit him as a replacement for Ross Barkley, with manager Rob Edwards viewing him as the type of player who could help the Hatters to secure a top-flight return.

The player is reportedly keen to stay and fight for game time at his current club, but he may be left with no choice but to move away from the Emirates temporarily.

Luton Town should attempt ambitious Emile Smith Rowe

It may be difficult for Luton to win the race for Smith Rowe, with the Hatters not the only club to be interested in him.

Top-tier outfit Fulham are also thought to be keen on the 23-year-old and with Marco Silva's side able to offer him top-flight football, that could potentially force Edwards' side out of this race.

However, they won't know whether they can win the race unless they try, and a loan move could be a good option for Luton who won't want to spend too much this summer following their relegation.

If the Hatters are willing to play him regularly, the Gunners may be more willing to pay a decent chunk of the player's wages and sanction a loan switch to Kenilworth Road.
