Macauley Bonne has taken to Instagram to share a message with Charlton Athletic’s supporters after sealing a return to The Valley.
As confirmed by Charlton’s official website yesterday, Bonne has signed a contract with the League One outfit until the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
The forward recently had his contract terminated by mutual consent at Queens Park Rangers following an unsuccessful stint with the Championship outfit.
During his time at Loftus Road, the forward only managed to make 44 appearances for the R’s in all competitions.
Loaned out by QPR to Ipswich Town last season, Bonne managed to produce some encouraging performances in League One.
In the 43 appearances that he made for the Blues in this division, the 27-year-old managed to find the back of the net on 12 occasions while he also provided three assists.
Bonne enjoyed a relatively fruitful first spell with Charlton as he scored 12 goals for the club in the 40 games that he participated in.
The forward could be in line to feature for the Addicks this weekend when they face Barnsley.
After his move was announced, Bonne opted to reflect on his return to Charlton on Instagram.
The forward posted: “Buzzing to be back at @cafcofficial, now time to kick on for the second half of the season and make something happen.”
The Verdict
Whereas it may take Bonne some time to get up to speed due to the fact that he has only featured in a competitive game since October, there is no reason why he cannot go on to become a key member of Charlton’s squad.
The forward demonstrated during the previous campaign that he is capable of making a difference at this level and thus will be confident in his ability to deliver the goods at The Valley.
By scoring regularly between now and the end of the season, Bonne could potentially earn a long term deal at Charlton.
As for the Addicks, they will be looking to climb the League One standings with Bonne in their side.
Currently nine points adrift of the play-off places, it will be interesting to see whether Charlton can close this particular gap in the coming weeks.
