Manchester City Women’s defender Kerstin Casparij has been hit with a fine and a one-match suspension after she admitted to making an offensive gesture towards the away supporters at last month’s Manchester derby.
City ran out 3-1 winners over their local rivals at the Etihad Stadium, with a Jess Park brace and a record-breaking goal from Khadija Shaw securing the points for Gareth Taylor’s side.
But the match was marred somewhat by controversy, with Dutch international Casparij alleged to have shown her middle finger to the United supporters while celebrating Park’s opening goal in the 37th minute.
And a statement from the Football Association on Wednesday confirmed that the 23-year-old will now serve a one-match ban and pay a fine of £1,634.61 after admitting to “offensive, insulting and abusive” conduct.
