Kevin De Bruyne is firmly into the twilight years of his own exemplary professional career, and with doubts over whether the Belgian will opt to remain at the club beyond the end of his existing contract, Manchester City are beginning to drafts up potential replacements.

The 33-year-old last signed a contract extension with Manchester City in 2021, which keeps him at the club until the end of the ongoing season, however conversations over a new deal are yet to pick up any speed with both parties focussed on events on the field.

While there is a relaxed approach to De Bruyne’s future, Manchester City’s team behind-the-scenes are working to ensure that their future beyond the services of the legendary Belgium international is in safe hands, and as such they are looking towards the Bundesliga.

According to the information of Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Manchester City are ‘well placed’ to sign Bayern Munich and Germany superstar Jamal Musiala amid interest from many of Europe’s top clubs.

It is stated that Manchester City stand alongside Premier League rivals Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea, as well as Real Madrid in monitoring the 21-year-old’s ongoing contractual situation at the Allianz Arena.

Both officials within Manchester City’s recruitment department, as well as first-team manager Pep Guardiola, are reportedly ‘long-term admirers’ of the attacking midfielder, with City able to spend big to land the midfielder after a huge profit in the last summer window.

It is widely expected that Jamal Musiala would command a transfer fee north of the £100 million mark, whilst notable football statistic website Transfermarkt prices the player at £110 million.

Manchester City have also been linked with Musiala’s international teammate and fellow attacking midfield superstar in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, who is also attracting interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Wirtz would also likely command a transfer fee well in excess of £100 million, although his strong relationship with highly-rated head coach Xabi Alonso may well keep him at the reigning Bundesliga champions for even longer.

Alonso is in fact a name that Manchester City could look towards in their other contingency plans for life after Pep Guardiola, with the Catalan also into the final year of his own contract at the Etihad Stadium.
