Manchester United defender Will Fish is set to join Championship side Cardiff City on a permanent transfer.

After a successful loan spell at Hibernian last term, it is understood that Fish was desperate for regular first-team football at a competitive level and he has secured that with this move.

Fish was a regular during his time in Scotland, so his stance on wanting regular football can only be understood.

We wish Fish nothing but the best with the rest of his career as is always the case when a prospect leaves after coming through the academy. He will leave with a lot to offer in his new surroundings because United try to set their players up with the professionalism required to make it at all levels.

According to the Manchester Evening News, there was interest from various second-tier clubs in signing Fish but Cardiff’s interest has been long-standing at least. That stood them in good stead when they showed genuine interest in signing the young centre-back.

Fish went on the pre-season tour with United this summer but was stretched off in the defeat to Liverpool in South Carolina.

United have signed Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt and were happy to sell Fish on a permanent deal. His opportunities at Old Trafford would’ve been limited.
