Manchester United are set to permanently cut ties with yet another academy product, as Will Fish is on his way to Cardiff City.

United have seemingly adopted a more ruthless approach when it comes to managing their young talents this summer, having already permanently sold high-profile academy stars like Alvaro Fernandez, Mason Greenwood and Willy Kambwala, among others.

Now, centre-back Fish is set to join the ever-growing outgoings list, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The outlet claims the defender is joining Championship side Cardiff City on a permanent transfer. He is set to complete the move this week.

The 21-year-old has attracted plenty of interest, with various clubs open to loan him as well as offer permanent deals. However, United have now reportedly struck a deal with Cardiff.

Fish, who made his senior debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2021, spent the last two seasons in Scotland, playing regularly for Hibernian.

It is understood United considered Fish’s loan stint, which saw him make 45 appearances across all competitions last term alone, “one of the most successful loans they had arranged.”

On the back of that Fish is “desperate to play first-team football” on a regular basis, and has accordingly decided to depart Old Trafford this summer permanently.

Erik ten Hag named the central defender in his squad for this summer’s pre-season tour to the USA, suggesting he admires the player.

However, after the arrival of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, it is unlikely the United gaffer would have handed Fish a significant amount of minutes this season.

The exits of academy products are not expected to stop with Fish’s transfer, as Scott McTominay and Hannibal Mejbri are also attracting strong interest for their services during the final days of the transfer window.

McTominay, who is not very keen on leaving his boyhood club, is being pursued by Fulham and Napoli. Meanwhile, Mejbri, who is thought to be frustrated at his situation at United, has been linked with Rangers.
