Manchester United duo Matthijs de Ligt and Amad Diallo have been named in WhoScored’s Team of the Week following their stellar performances against Southampton.

United got back to winning ways as they beat the Saints 3-0 at St Mary’s on Saturday.

De Ligt – who endured an extremely difficult and troublesome international break with the Netherlands – silenced his critics in fine fashion as broke the deadlock via a superb headed finish.

Marcus Rashford grabbed United’s second of the match six minutes later and in the process, became the club’s fifth player to score in 10 Premier League seasons, joining the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney and Roy Keane.

Alejandro Garnacho came on from the bench late on to seal the victory for the Red Devils and ensure there was little to no chance of Southampton mounting a dramatic comeback.

Beyond his goal, De Ligt was a rock at the back for United.

The Dutchman managed an impressive 92% pass accuracy and two shots on target. He won three of his five ground duels and all three aerial challenges that he contested.

WhoScored gave De Ligt the highest rating (8.95) of any outfield player in their Team of the Week.

The 25-year-old was named in a defence also consisting of Dara O’Shea (Ipswich Town) and Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal). The goalkeeper behind them was Arijanet Muric.

Against Southampton, Amad was United’s primary source of threat.

No player from the Premier League’s match-week four created more chances than the Ivorian’s four.

He was included in WhoScored’s midfield alongside Dwight McNeill (Everton), Wilfred Nidid (Leicester City), Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal) and Harvey Barnes (Newcastle).

Erling Haaland (Manchester City) and Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) rounded off the XI.

United return to action on Tuesday when they face Barnsley in the third round of the EFL Cup.
