Heading into the new season, there have been a lot of question marks regarding the Fair Play situation at FC Barcelona and how it might affect the registration of players who have signed new contracts as well as any new signings.

But, Barça are progressing in the right direction as the club have officially confirmed that two of the club’s crown jewels, Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, have been registered as first-team players.

“Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal are now first-team players. The two Culé players, who until now had been signed for the youth team and the reserve team respectively, have been full members of the FC Barcelona first team since Tuesday,” the statement from the club read.

Yamal made his first-team debut in the final phase of the 2022/23 season but enjoyed a proper breakthrough in the most recent campaign, featuring in 50 matches.

The 16-year-old signed a new contract with the Catalans last year which runs until 2026, but had to continue with a reserve team record due to the club’s FFP issues.

Meanwhile, Cubarsi also enjoyed his breakthrough during the 2023/24 campaign, making his debut in January and soon establishing himself as a permanent fixture in the starting XI.

The 17-year-old centre-back signed a new contract a few months ago and has now officially been promoted to the first team.

With both Yamal and Cubarsi now part of the first-team squad, they will be getting new numbers for the upcoming season.

There have been talks about Yamal becoming the new No. 10, but some reports suggest that he could take the No. 17 shirt left vacant by Marcos Alonso’s exit.
