Barcelona star Ronald Araújo has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with the club.
As much was confirmed by way of an official statement on the part of the Blaugrana on Thursday evening.
The subject of Araújo’s future has of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya’s capital throughout the January transfer window.
This comes, first, after it appeared as though the Uruguayan had come to the decision to move on, in search of a new challenge.
Upon being assured of his central role in the plans of Hansi Flick, Araújo’s mind was soon changed, however.
And, as alluded to above, mere days later, the Uruguayan has committed his long-term future to Barcelona, by way of a hefty five-and-a-half-year contract extension.
As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of the Catalans:
‘FC Barcelona and Ronald Araujo have reached an agreement on an extension to the player’s contract, tying him to the club through to 30 June 2031.
‘The centre back put pen to paper this Thursday at an event where he was joined by club president Joan Laporta; first vice-president Rafa Yuste; and director of sport Anderson Luis de Souza “Deco”.’
