Brazilian winger Luis Henrique (22) has put pen to paper over a contract renewal with Marseille, the Ligue 1 club has announced. The 22-year-old winger is now tied with Les Phocéens with a contract set to expire in 2028. The former Botafogo player is the second Marseille player to extend recently, following in the footsteps of Argentina international centre-back Leonardo Balerdi, who has been given the armband by head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
Luis Henrique joined Marseille from Brazilian outfit Três Passos in a €8m deal four years ago. He failed to make an impression under the different tutelages of former Marseille bosses André Villas-Boas and Jorge Sampaoli. Luis Henrique was then loaned out to Botafogo in 2022 with an option to buy. The winger then returned to Marseille last season during the winter transfer window where he finally made his mark in a somewhat struggling team.
Luis Henrique was given the chance to impress newly-appointed head coach Roberto De Zerbi in pre-season and he took it, scoring a brace for Les Phocéens‘ 5-1 away win at Brest. However, Luis Henrique is now set to compete with Jonathan Rowe for a spot on the left wing in the Italian’s formation.
