Botafogo have this afternoon announced the loan signing of Marseille forward Luis Henrique, the 20-year-old returning to his formative club after a two-year spell in the south of France.
L’Équipe indicate that the season-long loan deal also includes a permanent option, with the deal being completed after Marseille failed to reach an agreement with Flamengo, who had been the Brazilian’s first choice.
The winger has failed to impress during his time with OM, having only scored the one goal in his two campaigns in Ligue 1, for a total of 49 appearances at the club. Last year, he registered five assists in Ligue 1, but only managed one this past season.
As reported by Foot Mercato, the wide man had initially looked close to joining Torino, but the player himself was not interested in a move to the other side of the Alps. Nantes had also shown interest.
Instead, Luis Henrique has opted for a return to Brazil, as he looks to get his career back on track, as he ostensibly did not fit in new manager Igor Tudor’s plans at Marseille.
