A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga outfit Sevilla has on Tuesday secured a move back to his home country.

The player in question? Marcos Acuña.

The name of left-back Acuña has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Andalusia over the course of the last couple of days.

This comes after word was forthcoming that the Sevilla brass had opened negotiations with their counterparts at Argentine giants River Plate, over a transfer for the 32-year-old.

And as alluded to above, this evening, such talks, with the blessing of Acuña himself, have officially borne fruit.

As confirmed in a statement across Sevilla’s website and social media platforms, the World Cup winner has linked up with River on a permanent basis, bringing an end to his four-year stint in Nervión:

‘Sevilla FC and Club Atlético River Plate have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marcos Acuña to the Argentine club.

‘Sevilla FC would like to thank Acuña for his professionalism and dedication in the red and white shirt and wishes him the best of luck in this new stage.’
