One player keeps coming up as a midfield target for Manchester City | OneFootball

Manchester City need to reinforce their midfield this month. While the City hierarchy has been busy on multiple fronts so far in the transfer market, their need to sign another midfielder or two remains. As of now a concrete midfield target for Manchester City is yet to emerge. But one player has consistently been named as a potential target for City. That is Atalanta midfielder Ederson. A new report has emerged naming the Brazilian as a player Manchester City could be after this month. So perhaps he is the player the world champions will target this month.

Rob Dawson has reported for ESPN that Manchester City retain an interest in signing Ederson this month. Dawson adds that signing the Brazilian may be a difficult deal to complete this month given the importance of Ederson to Atalanta’s push to win the Serie A title. Dawson’s new report follows on from reports from Jack Gaughan and Martin Blackburn for the Daily Mail and the Sun that Ederson is a player that City are interested in signing.

As of now, there is still plenty of time for Manchester City to address their midfield issues in the January window. With over three weeks remaining in the transfer window City have plenty of time to make their move for a midfielder. There have yet to be any concrete links to one midfielder in particular with a potential move to Manchester City. But Ederson has consistently been named as the midfielder City are interested in. Signing him could prove to be difficult, but perhaps City is focusing on completing other deals before moving on to testing Atalanta’s resolve to keep the Brazilian.

If Manchester City are looking for a midfielder who can fill the void left by Rodri’s absence and potentially play alongside him when he returns, Ederson may be the ideal player for that role. He can play as a 6 or an 8 and has the energy to track back and get forward. Ederson is also good technically and strong in a challenge and his pace in midfield would be a major boost to City’s midfield. He is a workhorse in midfield, and Manchester City desperately lacks that type of player in their engine room. The case for City to sign the Brazilian is compelling. Although it may be a difficult deal to complete.
