Ole Romeny is believed to be closing in on a seven-figure move to the Kassam Stadium.
Oxford United have agreed a deal to sign FC Utrecht forward Ole Romeny.
This is according to VoetbalPrimeur, who believes the U's have struck an agreement early in the January transfer window to address their striker department.
Gary Rowett currently has three senior forwards at his disposal, with Mark Harris, Dane Scarlett and Will Goodwin all available as options.
Harris, 26, started the season fairly well, but has struggled at times and has been dropped for Scarlett on multiple occasions.
Scarlett has had an impact at the Kassam Stadium, but is only on loan for the remainder of the season and will head back to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the campaign.
Goodwin, meanwhile, hasn't really made much of an impact since his move from Cheltenham Town and he could potentially benefit from securing a loan move away to win more game time and have more joy in front of goal.
There are others who can contribute in the final third apart from their strikers, including Tyler Goodrham, Ruben Rodrigues and Cameron Brannagan.
But their striker department is one they could benefit from addressing - and they look set to strengthen this area.
An agreement has been struck between Oxford and Utrecht for Romeny, according to VoetbalPrimeur.
As part of the deal, the U's are set to pay around €2m for his signature, and the player is already in England for final talks and a medical.
If the player fully agrees a deal and passes his medical, he will put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year contract.
The Championship side have made a move for the player after seeing him shine at points for his current side, with the 24-year-old getting himself on the scoresheet this season.
The U's have a decent amount of depth in some areas.
They have a decent number of goalkeeper, right-back and midfield options, and they may also have enough striker options when Romeny comes in.
However, their left-back department probably needs to be looked at, and they could benefit from an extra centre-back with Ben Nelson's injury showing the lack of depth they have there, even with Sam Long able to fill in as an option.
Their wing situation is also an interesting one, with Malcolm Ebiowei set to have his loan cut short, Matt Phillips not making enough of an impact so far this season and Kyle Edwards an injury-prone player.
Przemyslaw Placheta has also spent time out of action this season, along with Siriki Dembele.
If they can offload a couple of players in this department and bring in a replacement or two, that could be ideal for them, though it probably isn't a January priority for them considering they have Goodrham and Dale at their disposal as well.
