Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri appears to be racing towards the exit doors of Old Trafford this summer.

Last month, it was revealed that Pellistri entered talks with Panathinaikos over a potential transfer.

Yesterday, The Peoples Person mentioned Fabrizio Romano’s report claiming that United were in advanced talks with the Greek club over Pellistri’s potential move.

Now, it appears as if transfer talks are hurtling towards their conclusion.

This morning, Romano posted on X that Pellistri is set to be signed by Panathinaikos this week.

“Panathinaikos are prepared to close the deal to sign Facundo Pellistri this week, almost there!” Romano posted. “Permanent transfer from Man United as exclusively revealed yesterday. One key factor: Pana manager Alonso, pushing to have Pellistri.”

It appears that Panathinaikos manager Alonso did indeed play a significant role in luring his fellow Uruguayan to the club given the widespread interest in the youngster.

Having returned to Old Trafford following a loan spell at Granada, Pellistri attracted the interest of Real Valladolid and Bologna as well if reports are to be believed. Still, it appears that Panathinaikos have pipped them to the finish line.

Pellistri only managed to score two goals and supply two assists during his 15 La Liga appearances for Granada last season, largely mirroring the troubling season that the Spanish club endured as they finished last in La Liga, sealing their relegation.

The Uruguayan also struggled to find his form when representing his country at the Copa America, even with his team securing third place in the competition.

Since signing for United in 2020, Pellistri has struggled to secure a spot in the team, being sent out on loan twice to Alaves before his stint at Granada.

Now, with fellow rising stars Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo ahead of him in Erik ten Hag’s pecking order, it appears as if there is no place for Pellistri at United, making his departure a logical move particularly as he looks to advance his career.
