According to a report by the AFP, Paris Saint-Germain has promised to check tifos before matches “to guarantee the absence of political messages” following a meeting between the club, the French Football Federation, and the French government.

This follows the tifo that was put on display before PSG’s Champions League game against Atlético de Madrid on Wednesday. The French government criticised the banner, which featured the words ‘Free Palestine’ and the phrase ‘War is on the ground but peace is in the world’ below it.

PSG will also reportedly look to ban the supporters group Collectif Ultras Paris (CUP) from accessing the Parc des Princes outside of matchdays for an undefined period of time, while the club will also establish new procedures which will look to vet tifos more thoroughly ahead of matchdays.

The CUP will likely also receive some more sanctions from the club in the near future. UEFA have announced that they will not be starting any proceedings against PSG as “the banner displayed could not be considered provocative or insulting in this specific case.”
