Queens Park Rangers will likely be on the hunt for a new manager this summer, with current head coach Marti Cifuentes widely expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

Speculation about Cifuentes' future at QPR first emerged last week when The Sun reported that he was considering handing in his resignation after a breakdown in his relationship with CEO Christian Nourry.

Sky Sports then claimed on Sunday that Cifuentes' representatives had held talks with West Bromwich Albion over their vacant managerial position, and all signs appeared to be pointing to a move to The Hawthorns after the Spaniard was placed on gardening leave by the R's on Tuesday night, effectively ending his tenure at Loftus Road.

However, there was an unexpected twist in the saga on Wednesday morning when journalist John Percy revealed that Cifuentes is not on West Brom's managerial shortlist at this stage, with the Baggies still believed to be "going through the recruitment process".

Even though Cifuentes will not be taking over at Albion, his departure from QPR this summer looks inevitable, and attention has turned to possible replacements for the 42-year-old, with Newcastle United assistant head coach Jason Tindall, who has previously managed Bournemouth in the Championship, one name that has been tipped as potential contender via the bookmakers' odds.

Jason Tindall, Mick Beale comparison drawn amid QPR talk

When asked for his thoughts on the prospect of Tindall replacing Cifuentes, FLW's QPR fan pundit Louis Moir said that the 47-year-old could be an exciting choice, and he compared the potential appointment to that of Mick Beale, who had previously spent much of his career as an assistant prior to taking over at Loftus Road in the summer of 2022.

"I was surprised when I saw Jason Tindall's name pop up fairly high on the bookies' list, which makes you think that there could be something in it," Louis said.

"It's a bit of a rogue shout.

"He's obviously had that experience as a manager at Bournemouth where he did fairly well, he had an over 40% win ratio.

"He's been with Eddie Howe at Newcastle as an assistant, and there's no denying he's worked with some top players there.

"He may feel that it could be time to leave the assistant role and try to make a career out of management now.

"I'd probably take him, it could be fairly exciting.

"It's kind of like when we got Mick Beale, but Tindall has actually managed at Bournemouth and did fairly well with them.

"They had a few bad results, hence why he got sacked, and they didn't get automatic promotion under him when maybe that should have been their goal with their squad at the time.

"But he's had loads of experience working at Newcastle under a top manager under Eddie Howe, and it seems like he could be a really interesting appointment if he is someone we're looking at.

"If he was to take his ability as an assistant manager and put that back into management with us, at a club where there is exciting players and young players to work with, it could work.

"He's one to keep an eye on."

Jason Tindall could be a gamble worth taking for QPR

As Louis says, QPR gave a highly-rated coach in Beale an opportunity in management three years ago, and while his time at the club ended in acrimonious fashion with his controversial move to Rangers, he certainly delivered results during his brief spell at Loftus Road.

Unlike Beale, Tindall does have managerial experience behind him, and he was arguably unfortunate to be sacked by Bournemouth in February 2021 at a time when the club were sitting sixth in the Championship.

Tindall has been a crucial part of Newcastle's success in recent years, and he oversaw comprehensive victories over Manchester United and Crystal Palace recently during Howe's absence, proving that he is capable of leading a team on his own, so he could be a strong appointment for the R's if he is keen to step back into management.
