Former Bayern Munich defender Rafinha has revealed more about his strained relationship with manager Niko Kovač.
Rafinha left the Bundesliga champions in July after making 266 appearances, scoring six goals and winning 12 major honours.
But the former Wolfsburg man found himself marginalised under Kovač last season and insists he doesn’t know why.
“It simply didn’t work between him and me; maybe he had no confidence in me,” he told BILD.
“I have no idea why. The coach knew that I was leaving at the end of the season, maybe that’s the reason.
“I was so disappointed not to start against Eintracht Frankfurt,” the 33-year-old added. “The coach took my farewell game away from me.
“Truly, I hope everything goes well with Niko, that he learns and improves things. But this year it didn’t work well.”
Rafinha has since joined Brasileirão side Flamengo after eight years in Bavaria.
