90% of Rangers fans can breathe a sigh of relief after Norwich star Kenny McLean and his representatives reportedly reached agreement for a £1.5M move to fellow Championship side Sheffield United.

The midfielder, who the lion’s share of Rangers fans had no interest in signing, had been linked with a move to Ibrox, with his having admitted in recent years that it would be a dream come true.

That move looked closer than ever this summer with contact being made with Carrow Road over Rangers’ potential interest materialising, but unfortunately the fee was not to Rangers’ liking, with the Ibrox side unwilling to shell out more than around £500,000. United, obviously, are paying three times this.

Every poll Ibrox Noise ran on McLean was a resounding ‘no thanks’, despite Ibrox Noise endorsing the potential signing given this was a Scotland international with 70 Premier League appearances. We weren’t anywhere near as against it as the majority of supporters were.

But in the end it looks like it won’t happen, and it’ll be the Blades who secure him instead.

The most worrying part here is that Rangers couldn’t pay any more than £500,000, which most fans might suggest is a fair price for a player they didn’t want, but the implication is we couldn’t come close to matching United’s offer of three times more, and the day and age Rangers can’t afford to go higher than half a million is a bit disquieting.

We’ll have more on that later, but for now, McLean is almost certainly not coming to Ibrox.

We’re not sure too many others are.
