Real Betis sent a delegation to Barcelona in order to negotiate for Blaugrana forward Vitor Roque, and were happy with talks. However the Catalan side are reluctant to let him go on loan, preferring some immediate income to help sanitise their salary limit situation.

Club legend Joaquin was part of the delegation that spoke to Roque, and returned to Seville saying that they were content with how talks had gone. On Tuesday morning, Betis President Angel Haro gave an update on their pursuit of Roque, confirming they were looking at ‘three different routes’. On Roque specifically, Haro said they would not consider buying him this summer.

“We are making some moves to complete the squad, primarily in the forward position, and there is a short list of three routes we are exploring. One of them has been more public. We are talking with the player and the club. The player is receptive, but they also have other options open. We are convinced that the project at Betis is something he is passionate or excited about.”

“Logically it is not simple, he is a player Barcelona made a significant investment in. He will also have other options, but he has told us that he likes the project. We are not going to contemplate a purchase of at this stage. It doesn’t make sense this year. Another year perhaps yes, but we won’t buy any player of that magnitude this year,” he told Relevo.

Haro also admitted that Las Palmas goalkeeper Alvaro Valles, who is reportedly holding out for a move to Betis, is ‘a player the club likes’, despite saying they had settled on their goalkeepers.

One of the other routes that Betis are reportedly looking at is Borussia Dortmund, while the other remains unknown. Betis’ offer is reportedly a loan with an obligation or option to buy 50% of his rights next summer. Sporting CP Sporting Director Hugo Viana also travelled to Barcelona for talks earlier this week. Their offer is thought to be €20m plus around €10m in variables, with the Catalan side hoping to increase the fixed fee to around €25m.
