Zinedine Zidane remains one of the most iconic figures in modern football, not only as a legendary player but also as a manager who achieved unparalleled success with Real Madrid.
However, his career as a coach has taken an intriguing pause. According to reports from MARCA, Zidane has limited his focus to just two projects: managing Real Madrid or the French national team.
At present, a return to Real Madrid seems out of the question. Zidane is fully aware that the position is currently held by Carlo Ancelotti, whom he respects deeply.
Despite Real Madrid finding their rhythm under Ancelotti, speculation about the Italian’s future continues to circulate.
Many believe that Ancelotti could leave at the end of the season, with Xabi Alonso emerging as the leading candidate to take over. Zidane’s name has also been mentioned, but he knows the chances of a third stint in Madrid are slim.
What makes Zidane’s situation unique is the length of his absence from the dugout. It has been over three years since he last managed a team, a rarity for someone who reached the pinnacle of coaching.

During this time, he has turned down numerous offers from top clubs like Manchester United, Juventus, PSG, and Bayern Munich, as well as several national teams.
Zidane’s response has always been the same—he is not interested in managing anywhere outside his two preferred options.
His stance reflects a deep sense of loyalty and clarity about his ambitions. Zidane envisions no club career outside of Real Madrid, the team where he built his legacy.
On the international stage, he has his eyes set on leading France, but that path remains blocked with Didier Deschamps’ contract extended until 2026.
For now, Zidane appears to be taking a patient approach, waiting for the right opportunity. His strong connection with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has been restored, but Zidane understands that a return is not on the horizon.
Similarly, he knows the French national team role is unavailable for the foreseeable future. Until then, Zidane seems content to wait, staying true to his principles and focusing only on projects that align with his vision.
