Real Madrid star Federico Valverde has this week provided his take on the ongoing battle for the Ballon d’Or.

The subject of the ‘Golden Ball’ has of course long taken its place front and centre in the chatter surrounding Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid squad.

This comes with two members of Los Blancos’ ranks widely considered to be the leading candidates to bag the prize.

The pair in question? Jude Bellingham, and Vinícius Jr.

The early months of the campaign saw midfielder Bellingham’s staggering goalscoring exploits culminate in an early advantage atop the standings, but recent months have seen wide-man Vinícius’ name reemerge in force.

The common consensus across the continent is that, when all is said and done, one of the two will in turn be crowned the latest recipient of the Ballon d’Or.

As part of a Q&A session for The Residency this week, the subject of which of his teammates he views as more deserving of being crowned world football’s best player was therefore put to the aforementioned Fede Valverde.

And the Uruguayan’s response proved an amusing one.

This comes with Valverde having revealed his hope that the Ballon d’Or can be ‘split’ between Bellingham and Vinícius:

“Ballon d’Or to Viní Jr or Bellingham? I would split it in half. Both are incredible.”
