The midfielder started for La Roja as they got the better of the Three Lions in the final at Berlin’s Olympiastadion.

Spain took the lead early in the second half through Nico Williams before former City man Cole Palmer drew England level with 15 to play.

But Mikel Oyarzabal’s close-range effort with five to play proved the difference in the German capital.

It’s the fourth time that Spain have been crowned European Champions, a record for the competition, and their first since winning back-to-back tournaments in 2008 and 2012.

Luis de la Fuente’s side ended Euro 2024 as top scorers, finding the net an impressive 15 times en route to lifting the trophy.

Spain won all seven of their matches at the tournament, with only their 2-1 triumph over host nation Germany in the quarter-finals requiring extra time.

And Rodrigo, fresh from yet another remarkable campaign at City, was central to that success.

Having helped La Roja top Group B without conceding a single goal, the 28-year-old grabbed his nation’s first goal in their 4-1 Round of 16 win over Georgia.

Picking up play from Nico Williams on the edge of the Georgian box, the midfielder flicked the ball back onto his left foot and rifled an unstoppable low drive into the net.

It set the tone for a dominant display from La Roja, but their victory over Germany in the last eight was a little less clear cut.

Two of the tournament’s standout teams locked horns in a fascinating encounter, which was eventually settled by Mikel Merino’s 119th-minute header.

Spain would book their place in the final with another 2-1 win, this time over World Cup finalists and pre-tournament favourites, France.

Once again, Rodrigo dictated affairs from the engine room, with La Roja responding to Les Bleus’ early goal with two goals in the space of four minutes midway through the first half through Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo.

That led to Sunday’s final showdown with England, in which the Spaniard added yet another trophy to his personal cabinet.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Rodrigo on helping Spain be crowned Euro 2024 champions.
