Rodrigo was forced off at half-time but had played an integral role in Luis de la Fuente’s side's march to Berlin, who matched France’s Euro ’84 record of maintaining a 100% record en route to the trophy.

He received the award as part of Spain’s trophy celebrations as they add the Euros title to their 2023 UEFA Nations League crown.

Only Aymeric Laporte completed more passes for Spain than the midfielder’s 411, which tallied a remarkable success rate of 92.8%.

As with City, though, Rodrigo was equally pivotal when out of possession, with just one other midfielder registering more ball recoveries than the Spaniard’s 33 across Euro 2024.

He grabbed La Roja’s first goal in their Round of 16 win over Georgia, finding the bottom corner with a clinical finish en route to a 4-1 win.

And while Spain’s attacking players dazzled, he was once again the conductor of their remarkable orchestra in statement wins over Germany and France in the last eight and semi-finals.

Having already claimed the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and a fourth successive Premier League title in 2023/24, Rodrigo has capped it off with a Euro 2024 medal and, now, this outstanding individual award.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Rodrigo on being named Player of the Tournament.
