There are two major transfers being worked out on at Chelsea right now, although they’re essentially also the same deal… Fabrizio Romano has just provided an update on both.

While the deal for Joao Felix is almost done – the medical was completed this morning and it’s just a question of getting the Portugal star to sign some documents and pose for photos – the move for Conor Gallagher the other way is even further along, and that is just waiting for the Felix deal to be rubber stamped.

Romano wrote an hour ago that everything is now lined up for both deals to go through. The Chelsea man is still in England, still in the same liminal stage as he was 10 days ago. At this stage, he must just be desperate for it to be over.

Sensibly, this time around they’re not letting Gallagher fly to Spain until there’s the green light on the Felix deal, to stop him having to go through the awkward situation he was in last time. As Romano points out, the medical and the contracts with Atletico are done, so there’s “no rush” to get the midfielder out there this time.

Chelsea fans’ feelings about another big move

The anger a lot of fans felt about the sale of Gallagher has faded through the course of the summer mainly just because it’s taken so long that any enthusiasm for frustration has dissipated. It’s felt so inevitable for so long that there’s been little point fighting it.

The chants of his name on Sunday were telling though – and you can expect to hear plenty more of them if and when the team struggle this season. Joao Felix is stepping into some very big shoes, and through no fault of his own will be judged against Gallagher’s impact.
