There are two major transfers being worked out on at Chelsea right now, although they’re essentially also the same deal… Fabrizio Romano has just provided an update on both.

In the case of Joao Felix, the Italian insider is simply providing updates on the information he gave out 24 hours ago. Yesterday Romano claimed Felix was on his way to London to complete his medical tests, and it looks like that all happened this morning.

“Felix has completed the main part of his medical tests in London,” Romano Tweeted, adding that the Atletico Madrid player will “sign his contract later today.”

It’s going to be a 6 year deal with the option of a further year from the club’s end. According to all previous reporting, Felix is going to take a major wage cut to make this move happen. It was only a year ago that he was getting settled in at Barcelona and claiming it was the dream move for him.

Now he’s ended up back at Chelsea, where feelings about him were so mixed about him after his first spell that he was allowed to move on. It may work out better this time with a new manager and a different team, but the situation is almost as difficult as it was in January 2023.

Another player to fit into the chaos at Stamford Bridge

As soon as Felix is in training – and it sounds like that could be as soon as the next few days if things keep moving at this pace – poor Enzo Maresca has to get to work working out how to fit another creative attacking midfield player into a squad which is rather stuffed with them.

We would imagine he’s excited to get to try out the talented Portugal star – whether he can get him to press properly is another question.
