Wayne Rooney has named three players he believes former club Manchester United should sign this summer.
The club’s record goalscorer was discussing the rebuild awaiting Ruben Amorim and said the signing of a goalkeeper, centre-back and centre-forward should be prioritised.
Rooney called on the Red Devils to re-sign former goalkeeper David de Gea, amid Andre Onana’s unconvincing performances this season. De Gea has impressed for Italian side Fiorentina during the current campaign. The 34-year-old left Old Trafford in 2023 after his contract was not renewed.
Amid Rasmus Hojlund’s struggles at centre-forward, Rooney urged United to sign an established striker. He named Victor Osimhen as an ideal option.
The Nigeria international has scored 36 goals in 40 games on loan at Galatasaray this season and has a release clause of €75m (£63.1m) in his contract at Napoli.
Rooney also wants to see Marc Guehi brought in from Crystal Palace. He believes the defender – who captained Palace to FA Cup success on Saturday – would have a ‘good impact’ at Old Trafford.
“I’d sign David de Gea back. I think Manchester United have missed him and I think he would do an amazing job. Second I’d sign Osimhen as a number nine,” Rooney told Amazon Prime.
“He’s a good striker and possibly available. The third one I’d sign, it would probably be difficult, but I’d try to sign Guehi from Crystal Palace. As a centre-back he’d have a really good impact.”
