Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United reign kicked off with a 1-1 draw away at newly promoted Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon.
United’s maiden display under their new head coach was labelled as “average” by former captain Roy Keane who had an eventful day himself at Portman Road.
As reported by talkSPORT, Keane was involved in an altercation with a home fan during his role as a pundit for Sky Sports.
The Irishman was seen making his way to the home supporters which led to a heated exchange between himself and an individual.
Keane was manager at Ipswich between 2009-2011 and suffered a tough spell during his period in charge, likely the reason behind the fans outburst.
“F— you Keane!” could be heard from the upper tier of the home ground with the fan involved in the altercation saying, “You’re a better pundit than you was a manager,” to the 52-year-old.
Keane responded by approaching the man in question where he replied: “I’ll wait for you in the car park!”
However, the disagreement only last a few seconds with security separating the pair and telling the fan to “calm down.”
It’s not the first time Keane has been involved in an incident with a fan after being accused of headbutting an Arsenal supporter at the Emirates Stadium last season.
His fiery temper played a huge part in his playing career, also, which helped drive United forward in the period of major success the club enjoyed with him as captain.
Amorim could certainly do with a player or two of Keane’s attitude and ability with the current crop failing to impress in the new head coach’s first display.
The lacklustre draw was a stark reminder of the size of the job the Portuguese coach has on his hands and he will be hoping for a much improved display in his first game at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
United entertain Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League next and will expect to inch closer to automatic qualification with a win in front of home support.
