'Shut up' - Celtic's Adam Idah explains who celebration was aimed at

Adam Idah has had an interesting last year or so. In the winter of 2024, he joined Celtic on loan from Norwich City. The Hoops needed a consistent goalscorer and considering the Irishman's record in front of goal with the Canaries, not many were excited. But he proved the doubters wrong and played an integral part in winning the Premiership and Scottish Cup double.
That convinced Celtic to go out and pay a significant transfer fee, believed to be in the region of £9.5 including add-ons, to sign Idah on a permanent basis from Norwich City last summer. Considering that figure, his time so far has been somewhat disappointing.
Do not get us wrong, Idah has shown glimpses of his quality. The brace against Aston Villa away in the Champions League was a real highlight. But overall, he has managed 14 goals in 44 appearances this season.
Of course, it is worth mentioning that Idah has never really been a consistent starter for Celtic. Earlier in the season, Kyogo was the first-choice number 9. Now, it looks like Daizen Maeda is ahead of the Irishman in the pecking order.
Idah recently found the back of the net for the Republic of Ireland national team against Bulgaria. After scoring, he pulled out the 'shush' celebration.
Many wondered who that was aimed at. Now, we seem to have a definitive answer from the man himself. As reported by The Scottish Sun, Idah said:
"I saw a lot of stuff online, so [the celebration] was just telling people to shut up, really.“Obviously, I was frustrated with the first game, but I came on and did what I’ve been doing all season, so it was just to the people who were doubting me."
It is worth mentioning that Idah did not feature at all in the previous game between Ireland and Bulgaria. So, it is good to see that he found the back of the net in the second leg. Hopefully, that will boost his confidence and help in the remainder of this season for Celtic.
