Significant update on Alan Sheehan's chances of permanent Swansea City manager role revealed

Swansea City have won their last three games under the interim head coach
Swansea City are now all but safe in the Championship this season after they picked up their third straight win-to-nil away at Sunderland this weekend.
The Swans have lost just twice in nine games under current interim head coach Alan Sheehan, with a draw away at Leeds and then the three consecutive wins coming after Swansea announced that the 38-year-old would be in charge until the end of the season.
The Welsh side are now closer to the play-offs than they are the bottom three, and whilst the club announced upon Luke Williams' sacking that the process to appoint a new head coach was already underway, it seems that Swansea's search for a new permanent boss for next season may see them look a lot closer to home.
According to Lyle Thomas on X: "Alan Sheehan is looking increasingly likely to get the full-time Swansea job" after becoming just the second side to win away at the Stadium of Light this season on Saturday.
The 38-year-old is set to go up against two other candidates, but Thomas reports that it would be "hard not to give him [the] job if this keeps up."
Swansea have taken 17 points from the nine games since they sacked Luke Williams, a record bettered by just three other teams, and are now in the top half for the first time since mid-January.
The Swans have been looking nervously over their shoulders at the bottom three for the majority of 2025, but now find themselves just eight points out from the play-offs with four games left.
And, whilst a late play-off charge seems unrealistic, Swansea fans will be hoping that Sheehan can take this form into next season, as they look to return to the top six after what will be a fourth successive season finishing mid-table.
Since Swansea returned to the Championship in 2018, they haven't been a club associated with sacking their managers, with Graham Potter and Russell Martin being poached by other clubs, and Steve Cooper in between those departing via mutual consent after the 2021 play-off final defeat to Brentford.
However, following Martin's departure ahead of the 2023/24 season, the Swans have failed to get their managerial appointment right, with Michael Duff and Luke Williams both failing to last a full season in charge of the Welsh side.
Sheehan seems to be well-liked at the club among both players and fans and, if the Irishman can lead Swansea to a top-half finish, which seemed incredibly unlikely two months ago, he'd be top of the list for many to receive the managerial post on a full-time basis.
Hopefully, it will be a case of 'third time's the charm' for permanent bosses at the Swansea.com Stadium if they were to go with Alan Sheehan following the culmination of this season.
