Club Brugge look to be without Simon Mignolet for a few weeks after the goalkeeper limped off with an injury during the sides domestic cup defeat to Union St Gilloise. In his place came Nordin Jackers, the 26-year-old goalkeeper on loan from OH Leuven. Jackers looks set to be between the posts on Sunday afternoon against his former side Genk.
Jackers made a name for himself during his time with Waasland-Beveren, now SK Beveren, when he joined the club during the 2019/2020 season. During his three year spell there he showed his shot stopping ability and earned himself a move to OH Leuven after the side were unable to bounce back from relegation. Many thought he would be the new number one in Leuven, but he ended up stuck on the bench.
It was surprising that he then moved to Club Brugge, considering that he was unlikely to play much with Mignolet being the sides clear number one. However, he now has a chance to show other clubs that he is still a quality goalkeeper. The former Belgian youth international still has a year left on his contract with OH Leuven, but they have a clear first choice goalkeeper in Tobe Leysen now. These next few games could help Jackers find a club in the summer that would be willing to make him their number one choice.
Given that it appears KV Mechelen will be without Gaëtan Coucke, who is out of contract in the summer, perhaps the likes of Jackers would be an ideal replacement for next season.
