Robert Vilahamn spoke about his enjoyment watching his side’s performance in the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace in our opening game of the 2024/25 Barclays Women's Super League campaign.

We had to put in a professional performance against the WSL newcomers and we certainly produced that, as we cruised to victory over Laura Kaminski’s side at Brisbane Road and kicked off our new season in superb fashion on Sunday afternoon.

Hayley Raso fired us ahead inside the opening 20 minutes with her first goal for the Club on her competitive debut before second half goals from Jess Naz, Drew Spence and Olga Athinen’s stunning strike from distance rounded off the victory in style.

The result was also the biggest league win under Robert since he was appointed Head Coach in July, 2023, and he was pleased to see how his side turned a positive pre-season, where we son six games out of six, into a strong display in our season opener.

“I’m so happy,” he told SPURSPLAY after the game. “We had a great pre-season, looked so good in those games, but whenever it’s the first game of the season, there will be nervous people, but they handled the first part good.

“In the second half, it was so good, we had like 26 goal chances and we scored some really nice goals as well. I’m very impressed with how we played. I think you could see that we played together now, we have relationships in the way we play…. It’s just beautiful to see actually and I was just standing there enjoying it.”

When asked about being back in front of our Lilywhite fanbase for the first time since May, Robert added: “We felt the fans, you could hear them wanting more goals and we wanted to score more goals for them.”

Next up is a trip to Villa Park to face Aston Villa, who were narrowly beaten by last season’s champions Chelsea on Friday night, and Robert is already focused on next weekend's fixture on the road.

“It’s a good start to the season, but it’s on to the next game as it will be tough against Aston Villa,” he said.

“We need to keep focusing on how we perform and how we do the things we do and, of course we will have different games each week, we just need to be consistent and continue playing the way we want because that’s the way to success."
