Starting opportunities fading for Real Madrid talent after recent performances and Ceballos’ return

A report from AS has brought attention to Eduardo Camavinga’s increasingly fragile status within Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
Once seen as a rising star destined to be a midfield mainstay, the Frenchman’s opportunities in Ancelotti’s XI have started to dwindle, particularly with Dani Ceballos making a comeback from his injury.
It must be noted that Camavinga has divided opinions among the fans this season. Despite being lauded in the past for his energy and versatility, his recent outings have lacked consistency.
In fact, his last three starts have all ended with either a yellow card or a red—one against Real Sociedad, another against Alaves, and a sending-off against Arsenal.
These displays have not helped his case, especially as he was substituted at half-time in each of those matches due to underwhelming performances or disciplinary concerns.
What is more, the Frenchman’s minutes have noticeably decreased. He has featured in 33 matches so far this season, racking up just 1,887 minutes—fewer than he managed in the previous campaign.

This drop is not coincidental. With most of his starts coming during periods of injury or rotation, it is evident that Ancelotti does not consider Camavinga an undisputed starter when everyone is available.
Meanwhile, Ceballos’ resurgence has changed the landscape entirely. The Spaniard has not only returned from injury but has also made himself an indispensable part of the squad.
His ability to control the tempo of games and bring balance in midfield has made him a more reliable option in crucial fixtures.
As the Copa del Rey final approaches, Camavinga’s chances of starting appear slim. His form, combined with Ancelotti’s preference for midfielders who provide stability, places him at a disadvantage.
With fierce competition, Camavinga finds himself fighting for relevance in a crowded midfield.
Unless he rediscovers his spark soon, Camavinga risks becoming a peripheral figure at a time when Real Madrid are pushing for silverware on multiple fronts.
