Stockport County are interested in signing Bradford City's Lewis Richards, who is out of contract this summer.
Stockport County are interested in Bradford City’s Lewis Richards, who is set to be a free agent when his contract expires this summer.
The 23-year-old has been an impressive figure for the Bantams since he joined from Wolves in 2023, and he has shone as a left wing-back under Graham Alexander.
However, he missed out on the run-in during their promotion season, as hamstring and shoulder problems meant his last appearance came back in February.
That could potentially be Richards’ last game for Bradford, as he faces an uncertain future as his contract is set to run down, although the Yorkshire outfit have made a move to keep him.
And, it appears Richards will have offers on the table, as Mirror reporter Dan Marsh has revealed that Stockport are keen on the player.
“Stockport County among those who have shown an interest in Lewis Richards. 23yo wing-back has been offered a new deal by Bradford City following their promotion to League One but others are also in the picture.”
Richards had been starring for Bradford, and it was a real shame that his campaign was cut short by injury.
The left wing-back role seems to be ideal for the player, as he has the energy to get up and down the flank, and even though he can improve his end product, he does boast quality on the ball, whilst defensively he is solid.
So, you can understand why there is such interest in Richards, particularly on a free, and he is going to have a big decision to make about his future.
The chance to move to Stockport will appeal, as they finished third in the league this season before losing in the play-off semi-final to Leyton Orient on penalties.
That was obviously a blow to the club, but they have made serious progress under Dave Challinor, and most would expect them to be in the mix for promotion once again in 12 months' time.
Yet, Bradford is a very big club, and they also have the potential to kick-on, whilst Richards will appreciate all they have done for him over the past few years.
