Mowbray isn't in the frame for the job at the bet365 Stadium, despite his excellent track record.
Stoke City are not considering Tony Mowbray as an option for the top job in Staffordshire.
This is according to TEAMtalk, who believe he’s not on the list of names under consideration for the Potters, despite the fact he’s ready to return to management.
Mowbray, 61, was forced to step back from the Birmingham City job in February, not that long after his arrival, due to a cancer diagnosis.
And he spent the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign out of action before quitting the job to focus on his recovery.
Treatment seems to have gone well though, and according to Alan Nixon, he is prepared to get himself back into the game after enjoying a sunshine holiday.
Having had success at Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland before his very brief spell at Birmingham, he may be able to secure a return to the game sooner rather than later.
The Potters need someone to come in and stabilise the team following a fairly torrid start to the season.
Their recent win against Sunderland under caretaker manager Ryan Shawcross has provided them with a boost, but they would probably benefit from having a permanent boss in place sooner rather than later.
Their managerial turnover rate is fairly high though, so they need to ensure their next appointment spends a decent amount of time at the helm at the bet365 Stadium.
Mowbray isn't under consideration for the job though, according to TEAMtalk.
He could have been seen as a steady pair of hands for the Potters, at least until the end of the season, but it looks as though the Staffordshire outfit will look elsewhere.
It has been reported that Steve Cooper is also unlikely to be appointed, but both Mark Robins and David Wagner have been spoken to.
Mowbray is solid, experienced, likeable and can squeeze the best out of players.
The style he implements is also exciting, so the Potters should be considering Mowbray as a potential option.
As mentioned above, the managerial turnover rate at the bet365 Stadium has been far too high in recent years.
Mowbray would have been a solid appointment who could have stayed at the club for quite a long time, if his recovery continued to go well.
