Djordje Petrovic’s (25) loan move to RC Strasbourg Alsace from partner club Chelsea has been an undeniable success. The Serbian goalkeeper was, for a time, No.1 at Chelsea last season, however, his shortcomings on the ball were plain for all to see. The move to Strasbourg was an opportunity for the goalkeeper to develop this facet of his game.
Petrovic has performed well in a Strasbourg side that are in the race for European football for next season. However, should the Serbian contribute towards reaching that goal, it is unlikely that he will remain at the Meinau to compete in any European campaign. As reported by BBC Sport, he is set to return to parent club Chelsea upon the conclusion of the season.
Upon his return to Stamford Bridge, Petrovic is expected to compete for the No.1 jersey along with Robert Sanchez and Fili Jorgensen. Despite the goalkeeper area being a problem for Chelsea this season, the Premier League side are not expected to recruit another shot-stopper this summer.
Alternatively, Petrovic could move to another “big club”, according to BBC Sport. However, Chelsea’s £25m valuation may put off any potential suitors.
