Paris Saint-Germain rallied to beat Aston Villa 3-1 on Wednesday night at Parc des Princes, scoring three straight goals to take control of the tie ahead of the second leg.
Despite a promising start from Villa, who opened the scoring, the match shifted just before halftime when Desire Doue pulled PSG level. From that point on, the hosts took over.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia put PSG ahead early in the second half, and Nuno Mendes added a late goal to give the French side a comfortable two-goal cushion heading into the return leg.
Unai Emery’s decisions may come under scrutiny after Villa lost their grip on the match, allowing PSG’s quality to take over.
Elsewhere on PSG’s side of the bracket, Arsenal carry a 3-0 advantage over Real Madrid going into the second leg. That result sets up the possibility of a Champions League showdown between the Gunners and PSG later in the competition.

On Thursday, talkSPORT’s Darren Bent spoke about which side Arsenal should be wanting to face if they advance past Los Blancos.
“It’s just the unknown. We play Aston Villa every single season. As in, fair — in the last couple of seasons, Villa have had Arsenal’s number.”
Aston Villa and Real Madrid will be looking to derail an Arsenal-PSG semifinal showdown in the Champions League. Both sides will be at home and eye a comeback result.
