Juventus have collected three consecutive 0-0 league draws, and their offensive struggles under Thiago Motta are proved by Serie A stats that see the Bianconeri among the bottom-half teams for shots on targets and touches inside the opponents’ box.
Serie A giants Juventus had a convincing start to the season, winning back-to-back 3-0 matches against Como and Hellas Verona in the opening two league games.
However, the following three meetings with Roma, Empoli and Napoli all ended in 0-0 draws, leading pundits to question Motta’s tactics.
The Serie A giants may have beaten PSV 3-1 on their Champions League debut last week, but Serie A stats reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport explain the Bianconeri’s poor offensive production in league games.
Juventus sit 14th in Serie A for total shots (53) and 13th for shots on target (17). The touches inside the opponents’ box were only 81 (17th in Serie A), while crosses were 54 (16th). Lastly, Juventus only attempted 15 shots from outside the box, again ranking among the bottom-half teams in 17th.
Their star striker, Dusan Vlahovic, scored in just one game, although it was in a 3-0 victory over Hellas Verona in August. The Serbia international was subbed off during the break against Napoli on Saturday after making just six touches in the first half.
According to Tuttosport newspaper, Thiago Motta may consider playing Kenan Yildiz as a false 9 in the next few games to boost Juventus’ attacking production. Their next match is away at Genoa on Saturday.
