That’s according to Jacob Tanswell of The Athletic, who has reported that the winger is at the Premier League side’s training ground this morning to complete a medical, ahead of a reported £12.6 million move.

In what has been one of the EFL transfer sagas of the summer, Philogene looks set to return to former club Villa, having been strongly linked with a move to Ipswich Town in recent weeks.

Fellow top flight side Everton and La Liga giants Barcelona were also said to be keen on the England under-21 international earlier in the summer, before a five-year deal with Unai Emery’s side was struck.

Jaden Philogene set for Aston Villa move as transfer situation is resolved

It looked like Premier League new boys Ipswich had secured a double deal for Hull City’s star pair this summer, with Philogene looking set to move to Portman Road alongside defender Jacob Greaves in a £35 million double deal.

Kieran McKenna’s side appeared to have beaten strong competition for the signatures, before Villa exercised their matching rights clause in Philogene’s deal, having sold the wide man to the Tigers just ten months ago for £5 million.

That gave the Midlands outfit three days to respond after a bid had been agreed for their former star, and they have decided to make the most of that situation, with the 22-year-old set to return to his old home in the coming days.

Despite the Tractor Boys reportedly offering £18 million for the City man, Villa will only have to fork out a fee in the region of £12.6 million this summer, due to a 30% sell-on clause they inserted in the winger’s contract coming into effect in this current deal.

With both clubs agreeing a deal, all that is left is for the player to complete a medical at Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training complex this morning, before a five-year deal can be announced.

Jaden Philogene’s standout 23/24 Championship campaign

Philogene turned out to be one of the Championship’s stars of the 23/24 campaign at the MKM Stadium, as he netted 12 goals for the Tigers, as well as setting up six more for his teammates as the Tigers fell agonisingly short of the playoffs.

The 22-year-old proved to be one of the most dangerous attacking players in the whole division with his pace and flair down the flanks, with his performances making him the Humberside outfit’s key attacking outlet throughout the campaign.

With his unpredictable nature with the ball at his feet, the former Cardiff City loanee would leave defenders for dead on numerous occasions, while his quick feet and even quicker mind would help to lay on chances for his colleagues on a regular basis.

With 115 shots over the course of the campaign - which equates to 3.69 per 90 - Philogene ranks among the top ten players in the division in that regard, while only three players can top his 87 carries into the penalty area during the past 12 months in the second tier.
