MIAMI – The United States won 7-nil against Paraguay in Group C to secure qualification to the Round of 16 in the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Saturday at Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogotá, Colombia.
The U.S. took the lead in the 10’ as Pietra Tordin struck a header to the back of the net.
Tordin earned her brace in the 12’, pushing in the rebound after the ball hit the crossbar on a prior attempt.
Gisele Thompson, who assisted on the second goal, added her name to the scorer’s list in the 29’ with a right-footed finish.
Yuna McCormack added a fourth in the 44’, receiving the ball from a corner kick and striking a right-footed shot in the area into the bottom right corner.
U.S. captain Ally Sentnor etched her name on the score sheet in the 52’ from a shot in the box.
Tordin secured her hat-trick in the 67’ with a quick strike in the box to connect on a through ball from McCormack.
Maddie Dahlien added the last goal of the night in the 83’, sending the ball to the bottom right corner after a drive into the box.
The United States finished their group Stage with a record of 2W-0D-1L. The U.S. finished second in Group C with six points behind defending champions Spain.
With the victory, the U.S. finished second in its group to set up a meeting with fellow Concacaf nation Mexico in the knockout stage. The two will meet on Wednesday at Estadio Nemesio Camacho 'El Campin' in Bogotá.
