Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp is set to join Premier League newcomers Leicester City for £20 million plus add-ons, according to Sky Sports.

Skipp completed his medical examinations yesterday and is expected to move to the King Power Stadium this week.

Leicester and Tottenham square off in their Premier League curtain raiser later today, but the deal will not be completed in time for the 23-year-old to feature.

Skipp came through the youth ranks at Tottenham before joining the first team in 2018. He joined Norwich City on a season-long loan two years later and has been fighting for a place since he returned.

The English midfielder played a bit-part role for Tottenham last season. He made 24 appearances across all competitions but started just five out of 21 Premier League games.

He was heavily involved in Spurs’ pre-season campaign, but the arrivals of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have pushed him further down the pecking order.

The Spurs academy graduate has made over 100 appearances for his boyhood club but will struggle for first-team minutes this season, so a move to Leicester suits all parties.

Tottenham are set to hand a Premier League debut to either Gray or Bergvall against Leicester tonight.

The young duo impressed during pre-season, and their performances have contributed to the club’s decision to allow Skipp to join Leicester on a permanent deal.

With Yves Bissouma suspended following his off-field indiscretion, the door is open for one of the teenagers to make their mark in the first team.

Pape Matar Sarr will likely anchor the midfield alongside Rodrigo Bentancur, but Gray and Bergvall will be pushing hard for a place in the starting XI or as a substitute.

Skipp’s departure has reduced Tottenham’s homegrown options, but the club are not believed to be in the market for a new defensive midfielder before the end of the transfer window.
