Tottenham survived a significant scare after edging past Lokomotiv Plovdiv 2-1 in Bulgaria on Thursday.
Spurs fielded a full strength side â featuring Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Hugo Lloris â but saw their Europa League ambitions hanging by a thread before their late comeback.
Scorers: Minchev 71âČ; Kane 80âČ, Ndombele 85âČ
Tottenham dominated possession early on and nearly went ahead after two minutes, only for Son Heung-min t0 fire straight at the goalkeeper when breaking through.
Steven Bergwijn then smashed the crossbar following good work from Giovani Lo Celso, before he was denied a clear penalty after being fouled by Lucas Masoero.
And despite waves of pressure from Spurs, it was the hosts who went ahead through Georgi Minchev after his powerful header flew past Hugo Lloris.
That lead only lasted nine minutes, with Harry Kane scoring from the penalty spot after Birsent Karagaren and Dinis Almeida were both sent off â reducing Lokomotiv to nine men.
Tanguy Ndombele then spared Spursâ and JosĂ© Mourinhoâs blushes after scoring the winner five minutes from time, finishing smartly after Lucas Moura found him unmarked.
A win means progression into the third round qualifiers but this was without doubt a lucky escape.
