The need for Manchester City to strengthen their squad this month has been apparent for some time. Pep Guardiola’s side has appeared to be showing signs of age and fatigue. Injuries have also hit them hard this season so reinforcements are required. Now a new report indicates that two dominoes may be set to fall. It now seems that two players may be poised to join Manchester City shortly to strengthen their squad.

David Ornstein has reported for The Athletic that Manchester City are working on deals to sign Omar Marmoush and Abdukodir Khusanov from Eintracht Frankfurt and Lens. Furthermore, Ornstein reports that while no deals have been agreed talks are advancing in City’s pursuit to sign the pair. In the case of Abdukodir Khusanov, Fraser Fletcher has reported for TeamTalk that Manchester City are prepared to pay Lens their full asking price of over £30 million to sign the young centre-back. Fletcher further reports that City are moving quickly to secure a deal for the Uzbekistani international.

Manchester City are on the verge of immediately improving Pep Guardiola’s squad but they will have one more pressing need to address in January.

Based on the new reports, it appears that it is only a matter of time before City completes deals to sign Omar Marmoush and Abdukodir Khusanov. Although nothing is agreed in terms of a transfer fee with either Eintracht Frankfurt or Lens both moves do appear to be accelerating. That is welcome news, especially considering how difficult the January transfer window is typically to navigate. The quicker Manchester City can tie up deals for Marmoush and Khusanov they can then move on to their other pressing need in the January transfer window.

Pep Guardiola’s squad is in desperate need of another midfielder. Obviously, they needed reinforcements up front and defensively. A new midfielder did appear to be City’s most pressing need this month. As soon as they tie up deals for Marmoush and Khusanov they can focus on that task. There is still plenty of time left in the January transfer window for City to find a midfielder. It remains to be seen who that player could be just yet.

But it does appear that reinforcements are coming to Pep Guardiola’s squad. Deals for Marmoush and Abdukodir Khusanov appear to be advancing. Those signings will immediately improve City’s attack and defence. The quicker those deals are complete then Manchester City can move on to other tasks. The January transfer window appears to finally be kicking off for the world champions. That is welcome news considering the size of the task that faced City before the January transfer window opened.
