Thomas Frank made the undoubtedly difficult decision to omit Ivan Toney from his squad for Brentford’s Premier League opener over the weekend.

The Bees manager admitted that his talisman faces an uncertain future in the closing stages of the summer transfer window, with Toney keen to finally embark on a new venture away from the Gtech Stadium.

In terms of Brentford’s stance, they’re now willing to cut ties with the forward due to the fact that his contract expires in June 2025, and they cannot risk losing a player of his quality for nothing.

Toney, 28, has long been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal, although neither Premier League giant has opted to accelerate their interest despite his availability this time around.

Saudi pay-day could prove too lucrative to turn down for Toney

In turn, the England international, who represented his nation at the Euros last month, is at something of a crossroads. With a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ahli on the table, he could pull the curtains on his European career before he’s even hit 30.

Judging by his rumoured wage demands, United would be right to opt against a move for the 36-goal No.9; GiveMeSport claims that Toney demanded a salary of £18.7 million – only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (£19.5m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£20.8m) pocket more in England’s top division.
