PSG head coach Luis Enrique looks confident in Les Parisiens‘ ability of putting up a fight against Liverpool in the Champions League R016. The Ligue 1 leaders will host Arne Slot’s Reds at Parc des Princes on Wednesday for the first leg. As they were seeded in topping the Champions League standings, the Premier League leaders will host the return leg at Anfield the following Tuesday. “It could have been a Champions League final“, the Spaniard said.
PSG have defeated Champions League-playing Lille OSC on Saturday 4-1 as a rehearsal for Wednesday’s clash courtesy of goals from Bradley Barcola, Marquinhos, Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué. Jonathan David reduced the deficit late on, but PSG were already 4-0 up before half-time. “We are not going to change much. Tonight (yesterday), it was a test. Liverpool and Lille have similarities”, Luis Enrique said. “We pressured them in such a way they could no longer play from the back, they had to play long. It will be different. Of course, it will be very complicated, but we are in the best period of the season.”
Luis Enrique added that Liverpool were the best team in Europe. “It is not in our mentality to speculate, to shield ourselves and remain defensive“, expanded the former Barcelona head coach. “We will attack, we don’t feel inferior to Liverpool, it’s 50-50 and we will try to turn it in our favor.“
