Frank McAvennie is adamant that Diego Laxalt “will prove to be a great signing” by Celtic and tipped him to walk straight into the starting XI.
The Parkhead legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, was blown away by the 27-year-old’s CV and tipped him to succeed in Scotland because of it.
The club confirmed the signing of the left-wing back on a season-long loan deal from AC Milan on Monday after Football Insider revealed that an agreement had been reached.
The Uruguay international made 35 appearances for the Serie A giants following a £13.5million move from Genoa in the summer of 2018.
McAvennie claimed that the defender must have a “big set of kahooners” to have played for both Milan clubs.
“What a CV he has,” he told Football Insider.
“I think he will prove to be a great signing for Celtic.
“He’s played for AC and Inter Milan and when you play for clubs like those you are a decent player, that is for sure. It shows that he has got a big set of kahooners as well, to play for both of those clubs.
“Scottish football will not bother this boy. He is an international for Uruguay so I think he will go straight into the team.”
Speaking after the signing was announced, manager Neil Lennon said: “We’ve been tracking him for a very long time – we tried to get him in this time last year, but we couldn’t do it.
“To get that deal over the line is fantastic business from the board and the club.”
In other Celtic news, Noel Whelan claims the club may re-sign forward who was “not up to scratch” after big update.
