According to Sport Bild, Wolfsburg are looking to move on Max Kruse as soon as possible after head coach Nico Kovač confirmed he will not play for the club again.

The 50-year-old coach dropped the bombshell after his side’s first victory of the season last weekend. During a post-match interview, he explained: “We didn’t see any impulses from Max. So as a coach you have to see the club. So we made the decision. He won’t be there in the future and definitely won’t play anymore.”

The announcement led to wide speculation, among them was ex-German international Lothar Matthäus. Covering the Bundesliga with Sky Sports, the former player said: “I assume that something has happened in the last two or three days.”

This led Kruse to take to his own defence via his official Instagram account. In a video, the forward said: “But I think everyone who knows me knows that I’ve always given everything, not only at VfL Wolfsburg but in the last ten or twelve years that I’ve been playing professional football.” He ended by explaining: “I think I’ll decide for myself when my time in the Bundesliga is over. Nobody else decides that for me.”

If the striker was opting to move out sooner rather than later, both the Qatar and Saudi Arabia transfer windows are open for business. In the meantime, Kruse continues to train with the squad knowing that he is not wanted nor will be used by the coach.
