AC Milan President ‘Optimistic’ On Building New San Siro With Inter Milan: ‘We’re Negotiating With The City’ | OneFootball

AC Milan President Paolo Scaroni says that he’s “optimistic” about building a new San Siro with Inter Milan.

Scaroni spoke to Italian football journalist Marco Bellinazzo, via FCInterNews, He stated that there are negotiations ongoing with the city of Milan.

Inter and Milan are currently trying to begin work on building a new stadium in the San Siro area.

For several years, the two clubs attempted to secure approval to demolish the existing San Siro. This would pave the way to build a new stadium in its place.

After this proved impossible, Inter and Milan explored options outside the city of Milan.

The Nerazzurri have focused their efforts on the commune of Rozzano. Meanwhile, the Rossoneri went as far as to buy land in the San Donato area.

Then, Milan Mayor Beppe Sala has made an effort to lure Inter and Milan back to the San Siro.

Firstly, the Milan Mayor proposed the idea of renovating the San Sirlo to bring it up to the two clubs’ requirements.

Inter and Milan rejected these plans.

However, the idea that the two clubs are now considering the possibility of buying land in the San Siro just next to the existing stadium, and building adjacent to it.

AC Milan President Scaroni “Optimistic” On Building New San Siro With Inter

Milan President Scaroni made clear that “I don’t want to absolve the municipal politics of Milan.”

“Because the project we’re working on is closely related to one we were already talking about in 2018,” he hit out on the delays.

“Six years have passed. And nothing has happened.”

“A mitigating factor would be that the view of the citizens has changed,” Scaroni then said.

“In 2018 there were people asking me why we wanted to demolish the Meazza at the San Siro.”

Scaroni noted that “Milan citizens are starting to come around to hte idea of the new.”

“Partly that’s because of what we see around Europe,” the Rossoneri President suggested.

“It’s not just a matter of politics. It’s also that San Donato became our Plan B because we’re allowed to renovate the Meazza along with build a new stadium.”

“That’s a key step,” Scaroni noted. “And I thank the Mayor for it.”

“Now there are negotiations, the process has begun,” he then said. “Because we and Inter have to buy the stadium and the area around it.”

“And obtain permits to build the clubs headquarters and museums.”

Scaroni noted that “We’re negotiating a contract with the city.”

“And it will have to be perfect,” he said. “Because it’s very important.”

“We’re working on it,” Scaroni added. “And I have to say I have a certain optimism.”
