The upcoming clash between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid is shaping up to be one of the most intense in recent years. The match will unfold amidst heightened tension, with both sides ramping up the rivalry in the lead-up to the fixture.

Real Madrid recently stirred controversy by accusing the competition of being manipulated following a contentious incident involving Carlos Romero of Espanyol.

The club argued that Romero should have been shown a red card for a challenge on Kylian Mbappe during the match, but the decision did not go their way.

In response, Atletico Madrid fired back with a series of sarcastic posts on social media, further heating up the derby atmosphere.

Atletico Madrid’s attack

On Wednesday, Atletico shared their initial “basic instructions for the derby” on social media.

The following day, they continued with another chapter, highlighting four supposed preparations for Real Madrid: maintaining the pitch, testing stadium lighting, setting up the dressing room, and, in a pointed jab, “using friendly journalists to spread delusions.”

The post was clearly aimed at mocking their city rivals.

There is more

This was not the only dig from Atletico. They also sought assistance from the Spanish language authority, the RAE, sarcastically asking for clarifications on terms like “pressure,” “intimidate,” and “influence.”

Their cheeky tone continued with further “instructions” for derby preparation, which included advice on physical conditioning, massages, strategic analysis, and utilising the club’s official television to influence referees.

The derby takes place in a charged atmosphere, particularly after Real Madrid’s decision to boycott a major meeting involving key figures of Spanish football.

The club’s absence was heavily criticised by the RFEF, LaLiga, and all other teams in the First and Second Divisions.
